The
purpose of the information pack is to promote knowledge
, skills and understanding of HIV&AIDS related legal,
ethical and human rights issues and to demonstrate that
HIV&AIDS and human rights are interrelated. The information
pack address issues of gender, stigma and discrimination,
advocacy, right based approaches in HIV&AIDS programming,
the GIPA (Greater Involvement and Participation of PLWHAs)

This
newsletter share the experiences of running the project
Responding to AIDS among Youth (RAY ) The RAY project was
established among other services to encourage more young
people to know their status and focus on abstinence. The
project commenced in October 2004 and is funded by PEPFAR
through Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Its overall aim is to reduce the impact of HIV&AIDS
among young people in Kenya through behaviour change, reducing
the level of HIV infection among young people, enhancing
access to youth friendly services including VCT, treatment
for opportunistic infections and STIs and access to ART.
The project targets youth involved in fishing, tourism,
agriculture, and transport industries, in and out of school
youth as well as youth in the slums. Download

This information Package is designed to provide crucial
information in a simplified manner to a diversity of audiences
especially those living with HIV and care providers working
at community level. It explores a wide range of issues ranging
from: when to starting treatment, approved medications,
HIV treatment regimen failure, changing treatment regimen,
adherence, HIV and pregnancy, prevention, alternative therapies,
nutrition and AIDS among others. The publication is ideal
as Kenya makes great strides in increasing access to treatment

Learnt in Working with Men in Fighting HIV&AIDS in Kenya
Published by KANCO with financial support from the Norwegian
Church Aid (NCA) (2006)
This booklet documents lessons learnt while implementing
a project on involvement of men in HIV&AIDS prevention,
care and support in Kenya. The project dubbed, working for
Change with Men in Fighting HIV&AIDS in Kenya aimed
at identifying men’s issues on HIV&AIDS and promoting

acquire knowledge, skills and understanding of HIV&AIDS

series of experience and lessons that might clarify for
others, areas of strength and weaknesses typical in successful
programs involving men in fighting the pandemic.

the fight against AIDS.

publication gives a summary of the contribution of the project
towards sensitizing the community in the fight against HIV/AIDS
through the CBOs and NGOs. Identified lessons learnt and
good practices in mitigating of the socioeconomic impacts
of HIV&AIDS pandemic at the grassroot level have been

This
publication is based on the lessons learnt from the Service
Delivery to Children affected by HIV & AIDS (CABA) in
Kenya. The publication address the psychological needs of
children affected by HIV&AIDS are, particularly in light
of the HIV epidemic in Kenya and Eastern Africa region.
The publication focuses mainly on the best lessons learnt
and thus documents on the various ways of enhancing psychological
support programmes and service delivery to children affected
by HIV/IADS. It also highlights strategies that can be used
to scale up the psychological support activities for CABA
by adopting programmes and strengthening the enabling environment
for organizations assisting CABA through advocacy of regional,
national and local levels.

is a policy document highlights KANCO initiatives, stakeholders,
policy makers, partners and the activities involved in policy

Publication documents KANCO’s initiatives in networking

learnt and good practices especially those on networking,
implementation and activities have been addressed.
Political
and Community support Initiatives: HIV&AIDS Policy Development

The
Policy is a milestone in the HIV&AIDS prevention and
control programmes in Kenya. The key to success of the policy
initiatives has been harmonizing all key stakeholders activities
towards a common goal through effective networking, co-ordination,
involvement of youth in their own advocacy programmes and
community mobilization. This publication documents the plenary
presentations, guided group discussions and questions and
answer methods applied to explain the lessons learnt in
the process of community involvement in policy initiatives.
It also documents the success stories, the challenges and
gaps that had been identified in the programs component
of the policy project. The major lessons learnt, recommendations
and emerging issues are also documented.
Capacity
Building for NGOs/CBOs (Lessons Learnt and Best Practices)

This is a publication based
on the lessons learnt and best practices in Busia, Siaya
and Suba Districts program Support Implementation arrangement
(PSIA) of 1997 and 1999.
It
is in this publication that we realize communities having
answers to the problems affecting them. The publication
spearheads capacity enhancements of the NGOs and CBOs to
respond more effectively to the challenges, but not to provide
solutions. The publication includes the background of the
PSIA component implemented by KANCO in building of local
CBOs/NGOs to develop effective responses to HIV&AIDS
prevention, care and support among the communities.

Although
millions of dollars have been spent worldwide on information
and education about HIV/AIDS, substantial behaviour change
is yet to be realized. Many people still continue to deny
the existence of AIDS and cyst it in myths and rumours.
With AIDS ravaging families, the children seem to bear the
full blunt of the epidemic. The publication explores on
the various approaches and strategies a community can employ
in coping up with HIV/AIDS and especially among the children
and the youth.

Guides aimed at strengthening the existing literature on
HIV&AIDS by focusing more on issues that are pertinent
to children and young people. The guide documents skills,
attributes and knowledge useful to strengthen children and
young people in families affected by HIV/AIDS. Basically,
the guide gives an introduction to the basic facts about
HIV/AIDS in order to enhance the knowledge and skills of
children in coping with HIV/AIDS pandemic. The guide should
be used with guidance from teacher, parents or guardians
so as to respond where questions may arise.

This
publication is specifically designed for women, HIV support
groups, Healthcare workers and health care planners.
The
publication documents the impact of HIV&AIDS on women
young children and the extent of the problems. It also discusses
how mothers can transmit HIV to their infants and ways in
which HIV&AIDS can affect women, infants and young children.
It further highlights strategies for preventing infection
in women and children, in particular in reducing HIV infections
in women and reducing transmission through blood contact.

This
package is specifically for NGOs and CBOs dealing with HIV&AIDS,
advocacy groups, the government, policy and decision-making
bodies and the general public who wish to advocate for the
development and implementation of sound policies relating
to HIV&AIDS prevention and care.
This
publication examines key areas where policies need to be
developed as far as HIV&AIDS is concerned as well as
the policy process. The publication also focuses on the
advocacy in view of what it is and how one can develop a
successful advocacy strategy to get some of the policies
identified implemented or at least recognized.

publication is designed mainly for NGOs and CBOs dealing
with HIV&AIDS, advocacy groups, the government, policy

publication documents the roles, socio-economic issues,
cultural norms that are specific to men and women and how
they affect and influence the spread of HIV&AIDS. It
also addresses the extent in which these issues must be
attended to in order to reduce the spread of HIV and why
gender must be mainstreamed in every basic activity in the
society.

This
publication is produced mainly with emphasis on HIV&AIDS
pandemic and targets the overwhelming need of information
on people living with the pandemic. It targets the persons
living with HIV&AIDS, caregivers, HIV&AIDS and STDs
counselors and those interested in acquiring further information
on AIDS.
The
publication documents issues related to living positively,
addressing a lot of the burning questions that many people
do raise in common situation pertaining HIV&AIDS. It
is the author’s wish that this publication will bring
to the attention of the reader something new. The publication

publication documents the organization involved in the fight
against HIV&AIDS in the country. To start with, the
publication documents information on the organization involved
which are listed alphabetically. It later zeros in on how
applications for funds can be made and also a list of VCT
centre in Kenya. The publication also documents the lists
organizations offering prevention of mother to child transmission
of HIV services in Kenya, list of mission hospitals offering
ARVs and follow-ups in Kenya and those organizations involved
in HIV&AIDS vaccine development and testing in Kenya.
