About KANCO

Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) is a national membership network of Ns, CBOs and Faith Based Organizations involved or that have interest in HIV & AIDS activities in Kenya.

In the late 1980s, CSOs who had begun responding to HIV&AIDS felt the need to work together nad share learning experiences. Spearheaded by 7 key NGOs, these consultantions culminated in the establishement of KANCO in 1990 as a formal networking system for CSOs in Kenya. To date, the membership has grown to over 850 CSOs.

Our Vision

A Kenyan society free of HIV & AIDS and its impacts

Mission Statement
KANCO aims to be a premier organisation committed to providing and promoting leadership, collaborations and enhancing capacity among Civil Society Organisations for collective action towards effective responses to HIV&AIDS and its impact.

Previous Strategic Areas of Focus

Since inception in 1990, Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium has been responding to the impact of HIV & AIDS through four strategies, namely:

  1. Facilitating networking, collaboration and co-ordination of HIV & AIDS activities among member NGOs, CBOs and FBOs.
  2. Facilitating access to HIV & AIDS information through its Resource Centres.
  3. Ensuring that Capacity Building for members translates to provision of better HIV & AIDS services and suitable intervention approaches.
  4. Complementing government efforts to develop and articulate relevant national policies for HIV & AIDS Prevention, Care and Support activities.

Strategic Areas of Focus

Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) will focus on four core program in the next five years. They include: Information access and documentation; Capacity Building for members and other stakeholders; Policy development and Advocacy; and Grant Making and Grant Management.

KANCO will also implement crosscutting interventions, namely: Networking, research monitoring & evaluation, media involvement and greater involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS. KANCO will also strengthen its institutional capacity building and resource mobilisation in order to effectively contribute to the three issues of the National Strategic Plan (prevention of new infections, improvement of quality of life and mitigation of socio-economic impact of HIV & AIDS).
