The HIV Vaccine Development Process
KANCO is collaborating with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) in the area of HIV Vaccine Advocacy among Civil Society Organizations in Kenya, through capacity building for Vaccine Support Networks throughout the country, among other activities.
This project has been going on since 2003. It is an initiative that seeks to prepare Kenyan communities to participate in vaccine development and trial processes.
KANCO has played a major role in this initiative by establishing linkages with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) and Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI) to prepare the Kenyan Communities. This initiative covers five regions in Kenya namely: Nairobi, Coast, Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western.
KANCO has also been working with Vaccine Support Networks (VSN) to strengthen linkages and collaboration between members of CSO in each region. KANCO also aims at strengthening the advocacy role of the CSOs within communities to participate in vaccine development and trials.
Among the achievements of the project is the provision of information to the VSN through the resource centres located in Nairobi, Nakuru, Kakamega and Mombasa. This has served in updating people to know what is happening currently and also of future plans. KANCO has also ensured that communication with the VSN on planned activities and progresses made is maintained
